Disco Devil as an 8 minute version was understood as an attempt to assert itself on the increasingly hip disco dance floors and accordingly to bring in some money next to the original by Max Romeo. "Disco Devil " entstand 1976 als Lee Parry nicht mehr aktiver Produzent von Bob Marley war. The Wailers, die Band von Bob Marley, deren langjähriges Bestehen vor allem auf Bob zurückzuführen ist, wurde mehrfach umbesetzt, fand aber ab1972 zwei wichtige neue Mitglieder Aston Barrett und Carlton Barrett am Bass und Drums, die zuvor bei der Studioband "The Upsetters" von Lee "Scratch" Perry spielten. The Upsetters war die eigentliche Geheimwaffe von Perry, den früh erkannte er, das gute Songs auch mit solider Musik zu tun haben, vor allem wenn man die Arrangements technisch verfremden will.Das Genre "Dub" wurde wohl von Lee erfunden, was Ihm das Anhängsel "Scratch" Perry einbrachte. Sein Spezialgebiet war, mit externem Equipment Sounds und musikalische Passagen teilweise mehrmals mit Effekten anzureichern, im Fachjargon "Overduben" genannt, was zu dieser Zeit sehr exotisch war, zumal sein Stil in der THC-Fraktion sehr beliebt war und immer noch ist! So gilt Perry auch als Vorreiter der Remixe und Zusammenarbeit mit DJs. Disco Devil als 8 Minuten Version verstand sich als Versuch, sich auf den immer hipper werdenden Disco-Dance-Floors durchzusetzen und dementsprechend auch noch etwas Geld neben dem Original von Max Romeo einzuspielen. Heutzutage werden die dazu verwendeten Techniken von vielen Musikproduzenten verwendet, insbesondere im Bereich elektronischer Musik. Üebrigens - Lee "Scratch" Perry lebt diese Tage in der Schweiz und hat Mireille geheiratet, eine dominante Geschäftsfrau, welche in den 80er-Jahren für Schlagzeilen sorgte. Lee Perry extravertierter Kleidungsstil war in den 70er schon auffällig und ist es heute noch mehr!!! Ein gealterter Paradiesvogel, der in seinem Leben wohl viele Farbschattierungen ausserhalb des "normal-wahrnehmbaren" mitbekommen hat, agiert heute noch sehr sehr jugendlich. Lee Perrys Kreativität ist bis zum heutigen Tage ungebrochen. Im Jahr 2003 gewann er mit seinem Album Jamaican E. T. den Grammy in der Kategorie Bestes Reggae-Album.
