New Romantic @ Kings Road, 1981
When you watch this documentary from 1981, you realize that David Bowie had a big influence on the youth of the 80s. Being androgynous was not hip until that time and young people were more oriented to the music than to the clothes or vice versa. With the New Romanitc scene, however, this changed profoundly and the awareness of female and male polarity was sharpened. The empathy and convergence of these two universal forces thus received special attention. We would like to see a new David Bowie for the present time, who would draw the attention of the young to this. Actually, this "Bowian" enlightenment has lasted quite a long time, but now it is time again.

L'Altromondo - from another world
It is 1965 and the Piper Club opens its doors in Rome. It will be the first club with experimental audiovisual expression and the precursor of the large-scale dance palace as we know it today. Pop art united with music! It was followed at the end of the 60's by the Mach 2 in Florence, the Piper Club in Turin and the L'Altro Mondo in Rimini. The latter is the only one to survive to the present day, making it one of the original clubs that called themselves "Radical Disco". Derived from "Radical Design," the movement was driven primarily by architects who were ardent advocates of the new technology and advocated the creation of new meeting spaces through light, music and performance art.

Jean Michel Jarre - A Journey into the Sound"
On October 16, 2015, the 18th studio album by Jean Michel Jarre was released. The concept album was created in cooperation of 15 artists who belong to the same scene and Jarre with the same dedication and passion. At the beginning of the album everything was open and no one knew where the journey would go with Vince Clarke, M83, Air, Massive Attack, Edgar Froese, Armin van Burren, Moby and other allies. This ARTE doc summarizes Jean Michel Jarre's journey and goes into detail about his collaborations with the artists on the new album. It is nice that at the end in the studio of Hans Zimmer in Hollywood is referred to the father "Maurice Jarre", who throughout his life saw Los Angeles as his own musical territory.

Leisure Cruise
Positive vibes - dance, dance, dance! "Leisure Cruise" is not an easy name for non-Anglo-Americans to remember and pronounce, and this could be one of the reasons why the New York band hasn't really taken off yet. Dave Hodge and Leah Siegel do their job extremely well! Maybe it's also because of their other projects Broken-Social-Scene and Firehorse that the big breakthrough hasn't happened yet. The video with the weird hippie dancer in Bollywood look is great and the song encourages you to do the same as the protagonist: put on headphones and dance through the streets!

Arvo Pärt - Adams Passion
Arvo Pärt: One of the greats of our time! As is so often the case, great artists are misunderstood during their lifetime and enjoy an inconspicuous existence. Not so Arvo Pärt! His home is classical music, but interestingly enough he establishes a connection to the electronic ambient music of our time, because ambient as a genre is actually also taken from classical music. Of course, the expressiveness is much greater and more intense with an orchestra, but the reduction to the essentials actually establishes a connection to ambient. Pärt's music lives from the pauses between the notes and therefore begins to breathe, vibrate and thus establishes a connection to the higher self. Contemplation or spiritual messages are always present in his music, putting the soul into rest mode. On September 11, 2015, Arvo Pärt turned 80 years old. In this context, Robert Wilson has come up with one of the most exciting stage events of 2015, bringing together the musical works "Adam's Lament", "Miserere", and "Tabula Rasa". Robert Wilson is a master of light, and so he performed "Adam's Passion" in an old former Soviet submarine factory in its world premiere May 15 in Talin. With actors and extras, over 100 people performed including Grammy Award winner and conductor Tönu Kaljuste. Be sure to listen and watch!

CYMATICS: Science Vs. Music
Make frequencies related to music visible! This is what Nigel Stanford and his team has undertaken and presented in the following video. As soon as the frequencies of the music show a certain purity, a coherence between sound and pictorially represented form sets in. Also one would like to establish a connection to the holy geometry or "the world of the matrix" when looking at it. Whether this is the case cannot be answered at this point. Impressively worth seeing is the video but in any case!

Depeche-Mode Juni 1988
Rare pictures from the Rose Bowl concert in Pasadena. Backstage interview before the concert with the still young unused musicians. On June 18, 1988 Depeche-Mode had their breakthrough in the USA with this concert. The video still shows backstage pictures of OMD (Enola Gay) and Thomas Dolby on stage. Funny is the statement of the tour manager with picture of two tape machine: Depeche-Mode is ready - start the Tape please!

Synthesizer in the Movies
What would the film be without sound? Well, as soon as there is no textual dialogue, the human mind tries to form the content via the ear. Filmmakers have learned from this to package content via the ear. At the center of this task is the sound designer/musician who forms a statement and thereby creates content in the film, from his point of view how the world sounds. So we start listening to the world as he sees it! Synthesizers have created new dimensions in this regard that cannot be done with conventional orchestra. A lot of attention is paid in this BBC doc to musician Vangelis, who finally talks about the "Blade Runner" soundtrack as well.

Roy Kafri
The low of vinyl sales is definitely overcome also in 2014 with even more positive figures. According to Amazon UK, sales increased by 100% in 2013 and even by 745% compared to 2008. So it's no wonder that video artists are starting to bring the medium to life, either literally or figuratively. In Roy Kafri's video clip, well-known covers become protagonists, moving their lips to lyrics that don't want to be lyrics. The Smith, Bowie, Gainsbourg, Prince, Madonna, Jackson and many more wake up from the usual static and sing along. Wittily implemented!

Tangerine Dream
Tangerine Dream (orange dream) was founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese (✝ January 20, 2015) and was one of the teachers or role models of the Berlin School of the first hour. Pink-Floyd, Kraftwerk and just Tangerine Dream started their careers with free improvisation, but over time found different ways to find their sound and thus the mass audience. Krautrock was the term used in German, which alone defined the listeners. A lot of listening tolerance was necessary and soon it was clear to Edgar Froese that he could not be satisfied with the guitar alone. So they invested a lot of money in synthesizer systems, which at that time quickly cost half a million German marks. The investment quickly paid off and Tangerine-Dream became the epitome of industrial scoring of its time, though never as successful as the two other bands mentioned above. Tangerine Dream's music was much more intellectual and more attributable to art, though opinions differ on this. Each concert was definitely worth listening to and seeing, because inner images were triggered without big visual bells and whistles! Lugging all the instruments there made a gig not exactly cheap, but the music freak paid kindly. Unfortunately Edgar Froese passed away on January 20, 2015 and leaves behind an orange dream by becoming one himself. RIP

Giorgio Moroder feat. Kylie Minogue
The Italian over-producer from the late 70s, Giorgio Moroder has entered into a cooperation with Kylie Minogue. At 74 years old, the old hand has shown that music has no age. The sound does not come up to the current pop productions, but exactly that is likeable! Sounds but much only after Lolipop and fairground. Synthesizer disco, the invention of the maestro himself, fits Kylie perfectly anyway. It could well become a radio earworm to increase the royalties of the two. Right Here, Right Now please!

Die Antwoord
Sicker sicker, the Antwoord! The South African shock-rave rappers have just released their third studio album Donker Mag. As in past albums, Yolandi Visser and Ninja manage to provoke in their own way, but the first time a little softer, probably to broaden their appeal in the pop market without upsetting the cult fans. And so Marilyn Mason kneels at times before Yolandi or Dita Von Teese before Ninja. Even British top model Cara Delevingne makes a cameo appearance. There is also an outing as an Aphex Twin fan and beware: the video is bloody, cheesy, dark and bright! Please don't take everything so seriously, because what started as a joke in 2009 became an internet hype, whereupon it was decided to continue the thing. Die Antwoord are the aliens of the music industry. One looks with open mouth and can not believe it or leave!

Kraftwerk
Finally Kraftwerk has received a worthy BBC film documentary, but without an actual statement from Ralf Hütter, the only remaining member bez. founder of the band founded in 1968. "Hütter" or internationally better communicated "Hutter" will reach seven/zero in 2016! Robots age as well known only in the exchange of the parts. Kraftwerk will probably not live to see this, and so Kraftwerk has long since reached death, purely in terms of content, important prophecies of the future are missing from their catalog, such as the imminent revolution in biotechnology or energy production. But they don't have to prove themselves anymore, because their work and vision is unique in the history of music. "I am the musician with calculator in hand" hits the nerve of the current time perfectly and the intelligent robots are just coming. In addition, Kraftwerk was always a band that romanticized technology. The images are clearly structured and futuristic, their melodies tend to be thoughtful but hopeful, which results in an idiosyncratic communication. In fact, Kraftwerke belongs more in the gallery than on the stage, and so one day there will be a concert with 4 Robots, which the founders will watch smiling from another dimension. Kraftwerk will then be immortal!

Max Berlin
French, do it better! Mais no: les Belges! One could think it was Serge Gainsbourg who talks lasciviously into the microphone. But no, not a Frenchman, but Max Berlin aka Jean-Pierre Cerrone from 1978! "Dream Disco" probably does not mean anything to many people. Nevertheless, there was this genre a short time. The song was produced by the brother of Jean-Marc Cerrone, who in turn worked a lot with Giorgio Moroder (I feel Love). Rare single by the way and very sexy!

Bobby Womack " The Bravest Man Of The Universe"
You may say: "nothing new, the album came out in spring 2012" Yes, but Bobby Womack has not released a new album for more than 18 years, so you can still report about it a year later, we think, because Bobby Womack is not just anyone: the first hit of the Rollings Stones came from his hand, which brought him the entry into the Hall of Fame of Rock and Roll. The creative break was interrupted only by chance by Blur frontman Damon Albarn, because he hired Bobby Womack as a guest singer for two songs for the Gorillaz album "Plastic Beach". The work was so fruitful that the co-production was enough for the collaboration of a whole album. Who is now "the bravest man of the universe?" In memory of Bobby Womack: deceased on June 27, 2014

Dillon
Dillon, the 26 year old exceptional artist with Brazilian roots, understands very well how to reduce minimalist arrangements so that her voice comes into its own. This is about not easy, but proves that your voice gets full attention in this solitude, because an insecure voice could never ever do that. This is also what makes Dillon: solid voice meets reduced arrangement, which may well be at the feet of Detroit techno, but not only. Also the piano is again and again important mainstay. Darkness meets bright shreds of light to disappear again in the infinity of dark matter - just beautiful!

None of them

Kiesza
Is there a new star in the sky? Let's see if it establishes itself in the firmament! The chances seem to be good for Kiesza, because the 25-year-old Canadian knows how to please and not only visually, but also vocally! Even if she "only" sings a cover of Heddaway's "What is Love" in this video, she still draws attention to the fact that she can not only whine a poppy retro house number, as impressively proven in the one-shot mode shot video "Hideaway", but also feels comfortable in the soulful, so in the area where Rihanna and the big ones are. It is clear that in this business a strong voice, dancing talents, appropriate songwriting and visual charms equals a loaded bazooka! A Lady Gaga would then finally had served, because Kiesza is authentic and tranpportiert besides surface also content!

LuLuRouge
LuLu Rouge or the two producers Buda and T.O.M. understand it quite well to transfer electronic music from the dreamy darkness into the real consciousness. Deep dreamy soundscapes collide with the auditory, whereupon in our brain immediately resonance to far away worlds is built up again. The two Danes have a certain kinship to Trentemøller, so it is not surprising that T.O.M. supports him at live performances. Bass music at its best!

Lee (scratch) Perry
Disco Devil " was created in 1976 when Lee Parry was no longer an active producer of Bob Marley. The Wailers, the band of Bob Marley, whose long existence is mainly due to Bob, was reshuffled several times, but found from 1972 two important new members Aston Barrett and Carlton Barrett on bass and drums, who previously played in the studio band "The Upsetters" of Lee "Scratch" Perry. The Upsetters was the real secret weapon of Perry, because early he recognized that good songs also have to do with solid music, especially if you want to technically alienate the arrangements. The genre "Dub" was probably invented by Lee, which brought him the appendage "Scratch" Perry. His specialty was to enrich sounds and musical passages with external equipment, sometimes several times with effects, called "overdubbing" in the jargon, which was very exotic at the time, especially since his style was very popular in the THC faction and still is! So Perry is also considered a pioneer of remixes and collaborations with DJs. Disco Devil as an 8 minute version was understood as an attempt to assert itself on the increasingly hip disco dance floors and accordingly to bring in some money next to the original by Max Romeo. Nowadays the techniques used for this purpose are used by many music producers, especially in the field of electronic music. By the way - Lee "Scratch" Perry lives in Switzerland these days and married Mireille, a dominant businesswoman who made headlines in the 80s. Lee Perry extroverted clothing style was already striking in the 70s and is even more so today!!! An aged bird of paradise, who must have seen many shades of color outside the "normal-perceptible" in his life, still acts very very youthful today. Lee Perry's creativity remains unbroken to this day. In 2003, he won the Grammy in the category of Best Reggae Album with his album Jamaican E. T..
